I’m Recruiting!

I am looking for a motivated Intern to join my team, based within my Airdrie Constituency Office. More details below:

Background

This six-month (or until a General Election is called) paid internship is in the Airdrie constituency office of Anum Qaisar MP.

Anum is the SNP MP for Airdrie and Shotts, and was elected in a Westminster by-election. She is the only MP of colour representing a Scottish constituency, and is a former teacher of Modern Studies and Politics.

Anum currently sits on the Scottish Affairs Committee, and has a keen interest in mental health along with tackling social and economic inequality. She also has a particular interest in Middle Eastern and South Asian politics.

Internship

Anum has set aside part of her staffing budget towards a paid internship, to support her work as the MP for Airdrie and Shotts. Not only will this add experience to CVs, but will provide an opportunity for the successful candidate to develop analytical and critical thinking skills.

This is a paid internship of up to 15 hours per week. The salary will be £12 an hour (Scottish living wage). The successful candidate will be based in the constituency office with some occasional travel to Westminster.

There will be a particular focus on community outreach and research. It is ideal for someone who is passionate about community issues and is keen to develop their research skills.

Applicants from under-represented communities, such as those from working class communities, are highly encouraged to apply. There is no requirement to have a degree. The internship can be flexible around other commitments such as education, work or caring responsibilities.

How to apply

Applicants should submit a CV detailing work and volunteer experience that may be relevant to the post.

Applicants should also submit a TikTok style video of up to 60 seconds on any subject matter they choose.

Please submit to anum.mp@parliament.uk with “Application Internship” in the subject line, by Friday 3rd May by 3pm. Late applications will not be accepted.

The successful candidate will be required to comply with UK Parliament security checks. Any offer of employment is dependent on the prospective employee meeting the Baseline Personnel Security Standard, undertaken by the Members’ Staff Verification Office (MSVO).
