Anum is a Scottish National Party politician and the Member of Parliament for Airdrie and Shotts. In 2021, she was elected to stand up for the people of Scotland against the cruel policies that continue to be imposed by Westminster.

Anum’s Journey

Born in Scotland, Anum’s family made North Lanarkshire their home after her grandad immigrated from Pakistan in the 1960s.

Anum has always been a campaigner for social justice and in 2014 voted ‘Yes’ to Scottish independence.

After the referendum, she taught as a qualified Modern Studies teacher before standing in the 2021 Airdrie and Shotts by-election.

Now Anum represents the area that, many years ago, welcomed her family with open arms and continues to be a strong voice for her local community.

In Westminster, she is dedicated to standing up for Scotland and amplifying the voices of her constituents.

Anum represents Airdrie and Shotts - a constituency that, like many parts of Scotland, knows all too well about the damage that can be caused by Westminster decision-making.

Once an industrial stronghold, Airdrie and Shotts was at the forefront of powering a nation through its iron and coal industries. However, Westminster’s systematic dismantling of these industries - coupled with a lack of investment in surrounding communities - has allowed Airdrie and Shotts to be forgotten for far too long.

Now, as SNP Levelling Up Spokesperson, Anum is working to scrutinise the UK Government’s flagship regional development policy and hold Westminster to account over it’s failure to adequately invest in the many Scottish communities that, like Airdrie and Shotts, continue to be let down by the Union.
