Starvation used as a Weapon of War is a war crime.

Today at Prime Minister’s Questions, I asked Prime Minister Rishi Sunak whether he agrees that Israel has the power to stop their siege on Gaza and put an end to the ongoing suffering and starvation crisis.

Here’s a little background to the crisis that is unfolding before our very eyes:

  • Accoring to the IPC, of the 600,000 people fighting the immediate risk of starvation across the globe, 95% are now in Gaza. The entirety of Gaza now sits within stage 3 or above, and is determined to be at crisis-level.

  • Israel blocked the supply of food, water and energy supplies during the early stages of this conflict and humanitarian aid continues to trickle into Gaza at nowhere near the rate necessary to address the worsening crisis.

  • With the UN estimating that over 337,000 children under 5 are in desperate need lifesaving nutritional support, this can only get worse if Israel is allowed to continue its collective punishment of the Palestinian people whilst the world watches on in a state of inertia.
