Women make up over half of our population, yet all too often go underrepresented in politics. It is so important that we recognise the significant contribution women make to shaping legislation and encourage more women to enter into politics. To that end, we must also work to shift the dial on societal norms, so that women and young girls are able to pursue their ambitions without prejudice or discrimination.

Women have played a crucial role in shaping the values of the Scottish National Party and have been a driving force in Scotland’s progress towards independence. I have no doubts that this will continue to be the case so long as we, as a society, work to ensure that more women’s voices are heard.
